Exmar's corporate policy on Health, Safety, Environment and Quality is based on important elements of social responsibility and sustainability.

Exmar endeavours to support sustainable growth by attaching the greatest importance to the quality of its fleet and activities, the safety of personnel and equipment and the protection of the environment.

Continuous Improvement and Risk Management are embedded in Exmars' operations to safeguard our stakeholders from unacceptable risk.

Exmar is concerned with the health and well-being of its personnel. It therefore takes great effort in providing a safe and sound working environment on board its ships and offshore units, as well as in its offices. Outside the office Exmar promotes physical activities and provides an extensive healthcare program to its employees.

Exmar Shipmanagement is in compliance with the International Safety Management Code (ISM) requirments and also obtained has ISO 9001 certificates in place. Exmar Shipmanagement further obtained the ISO 14001 certificate and is now implementing same to its fleet. Important steps in this respect are the environmental impact assessment of the LPG and LNG fleet and an environmental management action plan for the LNG and LPG carriers. Exmar Shipmanagement applies Tanker Management and Self-Assessment as per OCIMF guidelines. TMSA is an in depth guidance from OCIMF for self-assessment including best industry practice guidance regarding quality, safety, health and environment.

Exmar is on top of new environmental legal requirements such as:

  • MARPOL VI on low sulphur regulations for SECA zones.
  • IMO draft guideline on ship recycling (Green Passport).

Exmar is in line with contemporary new technological developments in shipping to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, in particular:

  • non-biocidal foul release coating systems for underwater hull
  • Electronic Cylinder Lubrification
  • centrifuges for efficient separation of oily bilge waters

Furthermore Exmar participates in leading edge environmental projects on its LNGRVs in the light of the regasification operations off Boston:

  • Advanced energy recovery systems for closed loop regasification
  • Selective Catalytic Reduction Units for NOx in exhaust gas is being installed on board
