Leading Cargo Operator
EXMAR aims to remain one of the leading players in the transportation of liquefied gas products. To counteract volatility in the freight market, the company has a balanced mix of long- and short-term agreements for the transportation of various products.
LPG
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consists primarily of propane and butane that is produced by refining natural gas or petroleum. Propane can be stored at a temperature of -46°C with butane at about -4°C. LPG is mainly used as a fuel (for transport, electricity generation and heating) or in various industrial applications in the petrochemical industry (e.g. plastics). Last year EXMAR transported about 4 million mt, i.e.: 7 % of the world's seaborne LPG trade.
Ammonia (NH3)
Ammonia is an inorganic chemical product, which is used for the production of fertilizers, explosives and synthetic fibres. Ammonia producing plants use natural gas and nitrogen as feedstock. Ammonia is stored at about -33°C (boiling temperature). As it has similar storage characteristics to LPG, both products can be transported on the same type of vessel. Last year EXMAR transported about 4 million i.e.: 25 % of the world's seaborne Ammonia trade.
